Preview

The Miami Marlins head to American Family Field in Milwaukee on Friday, July 17, 2026, for a 7:40 PM ET showdown with the Brewers. Sandy Alcantara gets the ball for Miami against Milwaukee's Logan Henderson in what shapes up as a compelling pitching duel. With the regular season deep into its second half, every game carries real weight in the standings, and this road trip to Wisconsin gives the Marlins a chance to make a statement away from South Florida.

Marlins vs. Brewers Pitching Matchup: Sandy Alcantara vs. Logan Henderson

Sandy Alcantara on the mound is always an event. The right-hander — a former NL Cy Young Award winner — brings elite stuff and the kind of competitive edge that keeps lineups uncomfortable from the first pitch to the last. Alcantara has the arsenal to attack Milwaukee's lineup top to bottom, and when he's operating with his sinker and changeup in concert, he's one of the more difficult outs in the National League.

On the other side, Logan Henderson is Milwaukee's assignment. Henderson is a name Marlins fans should get familiar with — the young Brewers arm has the potential to give Miami's lineup fits if they come in flat. The Marlins will need to be disciplined, work counts, and punish any mistakes Henderson offers up early in the game before he settles in.

Milwaukee Brewers Lineup to Watch

Milwaukee is rolling out a dangerous lineup that demands Alcantara's best. Here's what Miami is facing:

  • Christian Yelich (DH) leads off — a legitimate offensive threat who can set the tone immediately
  • Jackson Chourio (LF) bats second and brings athleticism and upside that makes him one of the more exciting young hitters in the NL
  • Brice Turang (2B) hits third, adding contact skills to the middle of the order
  • William Contreras (C) anchors the cleanup spot — a dangerous bat behind the dish
  • Jake Bauers (1B) and Garrett Mitchell (CF) provide depth in the five and six holes
  • Cooper Pratt (SS), Sal Frelick (RF), and Joey Ortiz (3B) round out the bottom third

That Yelich-Chourio-Contreras core is no joke. Alcantara will need to be sharp from the jump, especially with Yelich leading off. A big inning early against a pitcher of Alcantara's caliber isn't impossible, but it requires Milwaukee to execute — and it requires Miami's ace to keep his focus locked in.

Keys to the Game for Miami

  • Alcantara's command: If he's locating his sinker down in the zone, Milwaukee's contact-heavy hitters will beat balls into the ground all night. Any elevation issues, though, and this lineup can do damage.
  • Marlins lineup production: Miami's lineup card hasn't been released, which means the offensive approach is still an open question heading into first pitch. The Marlins need to manufacture runs against Henderson and not wait around for the three-run homer.
  • Bullpen readiness: Alcantara is capable of going deep, but if he runs into trouble in the sixth or seventh, Miami's relief corps has to be ready to protect a lead or keep the game within reach.

Prediction

This one leans Miami. Alcantara is the best pitcher on the field Friday night, and his ability to eat innings while limiting damage gives the Marlins a built-in edge. Milwaukee's lineup is legitimate, but Alcantara has faced tougher. Expect a tight, low-scoring game decided in the late innings. Marlins 3, Brewers 2.
